Grand Hotel Swansea – Phase 1 Steel Frame Erection

D & B Steel Structures has successfully completed Phase 1 of the structural steel frame erection for the extension of the Grand Hotel in Swansea.

Located in the heart of Swansea city centre, the project presented a number of logistical and technical challenges, requiring careful planning, coordination and precision throughout the steel erection process.

A Challenging City-Centre Steel Erection

Working within a busy city-centre location meant space and access were particularly restricted.

The steelwork extended across multiple working levels, while elements of the new structure also had to be drilled, fixed and tied back into the existing steelwork.

With limited space available on site, each stage of the installation required careful coordination to keep the steel erection progressing safely and efficiently.

Specialist lifting equipment, including an 80-tonne crane, was incorporated into the project to support the installation of the steelwork within the restricted site.

Phase 1 Steel Frame Complete

Completion of the Phase 1 steel frame marked a major milestone for the Grand Hotel development.

With the structural steelwork in position, the structure was ready for the next stage of construction, including the installation of steel decking followed by the concrete slab pour.

The project required accuracy across multiple floors and careful integration between the new and existing structures, making the successful completion of Phase 1 a fantastic achievement for everyone involved.
